Permanent Eyeliner: Save Time & Money

Just about any woman knows how important eyeliner is to the overall look of your makeup. Eyeliner enhances the shape of your eyes and make them look bigger and more expressive. It can also make thin lashes seem fuller, and the right style can really make your eyes pop, achieving that striking and sultry gaze.

That said, just about any woman would know time-consuming and annoying it is to put eyeliner on. Never mind the fact that a lot of eyeliners simply can’t keep up with daily tasks, especially for active women who sweat a lot. But what if you could have eyeliner on 24/7, never having to worry about putting it on or getting it smudged? Permanent eyeliner can save you time, and money, and can drastically improve your appearance with minimal upkeep.

How Does Permanent Eyeliner Work?

Permanent eyeliner is applied using micropigmentation, the same technique that other permanent makeup procedures use. In essence, a single-use needle is used to pierce just beneath the outermost epidermal layer of the skin around your eyes, and deposits small amounts of cosmetics-grade ink into the dermis. This ink changes the color of your skin, creating long-lasting eyeliner layer that’s immune to smudging.

Each session lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on how thick you want your eyeliner. The results will initially appear too dark, but within 3-4 days the pigments should have settled in and achieved the desired color. You’ll have a follow-up session in 6-8 weeks to check if the eyeliner has healed properly and to perform additional coloring if necessary.

How Do I Prepare For The Procedure?

Like with any permanent makeup procedure; 2 weeks before your permanent eyeliner appointment you should avoid smoking, alcohol, and taking any blood-thinning medication such as aspirin.

2 days before your procedure, you need to stop wearing lash extensions and contact lenses. On the day of the procedure, inform your specialist if you’re taking any prescription medication.

How Long Does It Take To Heal?

After the procedure is over, you can immediately continue with most of your normal tasks. However, the healing process—which takes around 1-2 weeks—might put a few restrictions on your normal day-to-day activities.

First, you shouldn’t wear makeup (particularly mascara) during the healing period. You should avoid wetting your face, whether it’s washing with water, jumping in the pool, or engaging in physical activity that’ll make you sweat a lot. And you should also avoid putting contact lenses on.

Finally, while your skin is healing, avoid rubbing or scratching the affected area.

Does The Procedure Hurt?

Permanent eyeliner is a somewhat more delicate procedure than other forms of permanent makeup because the skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive. Like all permanent makeup procedures, a local anesthetic is applied, in the form of a topical cream that usually contains lidocaine and other numbing agents. This virtually eliminates the pain you feel, but you’ll still get a scratching sensation that might be uncomfortable.

How Long Does It Last?

Permanent eyeliner lasts a pretty long time, typically 1-3 years without any maintenance, and with periodic touchups, it can last as long as you want it to.
